ANNA FFA at the Collin County Livestock Show

Anna FFA members had a very successful week at the 2021 Collin County Livestock Show held January 2nd-January 9th. The chapter finished the week with several buckles, banners, and ribbons.

The week began with the broiler and Rabbit shows. Case Burney won overall grand champion broilers for the third year in a row! Leeah Heaslett won reserve champion fryers with her pen of meat rabbits. We also had success at the breeding rabbit show, with Jaidyn Delaune, Presley Merritt, and Bellarayn Simmons each placing 1st place in their class.

The week continued with the Ag Mechanics show. Anna FFA received overall grand champion with a boomless pasture sprayer exhibited by Hayleigh Wagner, James Rollins, Jacob Rollins, and Tate Stroup. The Ag Mechanic students also won division champion and two reserve division champion awards with their shop table and Santa Maria grill, qualifying them for the sale. These items were exhibited by Carlos Aleman, Case Burney, Felix Hernandez, Riley Shortridge, and Skyler Watson.

The goat show was also successful for the program. Taryn Maxwell exhibited the champion middleweight market goat, along with the reserve champion lightweight market goat. Jordan Shute kept up the success with his reserve champion middleweight market goat. Hannah Price and Emily Dempsey each placed 1st in their class with their goat projects, and Samantha Rodgers and Kaitlyn Darden both qualified for the sale. Hannah Price also received the champion goat showmanship award.

Madison Cervantes, Tyler French, and Abby Riggs placed high enough with their swine projects to qualify for the Sale. Brayden Fisher also qualified for the sale with his market lamb.

The show rounded out with the heifer and horticulture show. Heifer exhibitors included Jaden Adams, Jamison Adams, Jett Adams, Tristin Durrett, and Case Burney. Each of the heifer exhibitors placed within the top two places in their class. During the horticulture show, several FFA members exhibited plants that they have grown in class and live floral arrangements. Kendall Torres earned reserve division champion in the greenhouse division with her sunflower project, qualifying her for the sale.

Congratulations to all of the students, families, ag teachers, and friends who helped with student projects along the way. We are extremely grateful for any and all support towards our program!
