Ted Mackey Named GACC's "Anna ISD Super Star"
On Saturday, April 2, 2022, the Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce (GACC) held its annual banquet, where the GACC recognized one of our staff members as the 2022 "Anna ISD Super Star." This award honors an Anna ISD employee who has shown dedication and leadership in their position and our community.
Congratulations to this year's "Super Star," Anna ISD Director of CTE and STEAM Ted Mackey!
"I'd first like to honor those who were also nominated...Mindi and Nurse DeGroot. They were both equally worthy of this, " said Ted Macker. "I am humbled to receive this prestigious award from the Chamber and Community of Anna. There's so much power in the positive relationships amongst all community stakeholders. None of this is possible without the tireless efforts of the Anna ISD CTE and STEAM staff and students!"
2022 "GACC Anna ISD Super Star" Nominees
Ted Mackey, Director of CTE and STEAM, is a champion for our students. If you ever cross Ted in the community, he advocates for Anna ISD CTE programs and students. He is always looking for ways to connect learning from our schools to our local businesses, creating opportunities for expanded learning for our students. With over 94% of high school students enrolled in a Career and Technical Education course, Mr. Mackey is committed to allowing all students to engage in a practical hands-on experience for college and career readiness. These community connections help prepare all students for relevant real-world skills critical to success. His passion and drive for a better future for our students, district, and community are evident in all his work.
Mindi Vandagriff, Coordinator of Professional & Digital Learning, deserves the GACC Anna ISD Superstar Award. Mindi bleeds purple and promotes Anna everywhere she goes and with whomever she meets. A few of her recent accomplishments include working collaboratively with the chamber to invite local business owners to support and share their businesses with over 100 new teachers during New Teacher Week and with all Anna ISD teachers for "Anna ISD Learns." In addition, as an executive board member and the convention chair, Mindi represented Anna ISD students and staff at Texas's biggest educational technology conference, TCEA, over this past year. She will serve on TCEA's executive board over the next three years as vice-president, president, and past president. Mindi also goes above and beyond in helping some of our most fragile students meet success milestones by celebrating with them, making them feel included, goal setting, and loving them through graduation. She is an outstanding spokesperson for the Anna community and does whatever it takes to build positive community and school partnerships.
Jennifer Degroot is Anna ISD's lead nurse. Nurse DeGroot played a crucial role in the education, preparation, and prevention of the COVID-19 pandemic. She not only spends countless hours compiling data to report to the CDC and TEA, but she also has provided prevention practice training multiple times to various stakeholders throughout the district and community of Anna. She has gone out of her way to administer COVID testing to students and staff at times other than regular school hours. In addition, she has spent countless hours communicating directly with the Collin County CDC to ensure that Anna's ISD COVID cases are reported and updated in real-time. Nurse Degroot also organizes and helps deliver "Coyote Packs" for homeless/ or low-income students to have clothes and food available. She teaches CPR classes to staff members during the summer and provides special training sessions for community members who wish to become CPR certified. Jennifer Degroot is an unsung hero who does so much behind the scenes for our schools and community, and we are very fortunate to have her as a member of the Coyote Family.
