AMS Kicks Off Advisory Class

Anna Middle School will be implementing an Advisory Period called “Coyote Time” for the 2020-2021 school year.  This advisory period will be a campus wide designated class period that all students will have at the same time.    

What is Advisory? 

Advisory is designed to create a strong support system that students need to develop academically, socially, and emotionally.  Research shows if students can develop a positive relationship with an educator at school it directly correlates with their academic and behavioral success.  

Advisory period will provide for a multitude of functions for students: 

  • Giving students the opportunity to seek out help from teachers in classes or assignments during the school day.
  • Creating a sense of community and ensuring students know that there is always someone that they can turn to for help, whether academically, socially, or personally.
  • Creating a strong support system for each student by supplying a single point-person (their advisor) who will develop a strong relationship with them and their parents.
  • Providing flexible time for remediation, enrichment, and to meet individual needs of each student.  

What Does it Look Like?

Below is an example of what Advisory can look like in the student week under the supervision of their advisory teacher:

Monday: Relationship Building, Circle Time, Counseling Programs

Tuesday: Academic Advising, Organizational Binders, Individual grade checks

Wednesday: Enrichment, Remediation, and  Academic Interventions

Thursday: Enrichment, Remediation, and Academic Interventions

Friday: Clubs, Academic UIL, Student Organizations, and Positive Reinforcers
