Superintendent Michael Comeaux Announces Plans to Retire
Michael Comeaux announced at the September 19, 2024, School Board meeting that he will retire after thirty years in Texas public education. Most recently, Comeaux served seven years as Superintendent of Schools of Anna ISD.
Under Comeaux's leadership, Anna ISD has received wide acclaim for its personalized approach to learning, high academic achievement, and collaborative work environment. The district has been one of the most innovative in the state, with cutting-edge programs in STEM learning, fine arts, programs for the gifted, career and technical education, and state-qualifying athletic programs.
Comeaux's last day acting as Superintendent in the district will be September 23, 2024. He will remain an employee of the school district until December 31, 2024, to assist with the transition of leadership.
"I am making this announcement now so that the Board of Trustees can have time to begin the selection process for the new Superintendent," Comeaux said. "The incredible level of community and district support we have experienced in AISD has been a hallmark of our success. I am grateful for all the Board members over these last seven years who have allowed me to serve Anna ISD, the place where Keely and I have enjoyed living in our evolving community. The Board and our dedicated staff have been committed to excellence at every level and in every facet of our district. Lastly, I want to acknowledge the campus and district leaders who have exercised visionary leadership in their daily work so that every student will be prepared to succeed after graduation. I am very proud of the work we have accomplished during my tenure. Our teachers, leadership team, and Board deserve the credit for working together as a team for the success of our students. I believe new leadership and the Board will bring new ideas to the table and continue to build on our legacy of success," said Superintendent Comeaux.
Speaking on behalf of the Board of Trustees, Board President Rhonda Lewis praised the Superintendent for his ability to build a strong culture of collaboration both within the district and between the district and the community.
"On behalf of the Board, we highly value the progress made in our school system under Superintendent Comeaux's leadership," Board President Lewis said. "Comeaux has been a tireless visionary for Anna ISD over the past seven years. Along with the Board, Comeaux has focused Anna ISD and its stakeholders on identifying and developing the strengths and gifts of every child. This vision culminated in the single focused goal for all of our students to achieve success beyond high school graduation."

- District installed an employee-matching annuity program
- Initiated the Anna ISD employee Holiday incentive program

- Lead in passing a $793,000,000.00 Bond election in 2022 (The largest in district history)
- Completed the 2016 Bond Authorization with all projects completed on time and under budget
- Anna High School Softball Team State Silver Medalist in 2019
- UIL Narrative Film State Champions 2021
- Anna High School Band state finals qualifier three times, Silver in 2022 and Bronze in 2023

Comeaux said Anna ISD's success is a product of teamwork throughout the district.
"I have been blessed to work with wonderful people at Anna ISD," Comeaux said. "Our campus staff, support staff, teachers, leadership team, and Board of Trustees deserve all the credit for working together as a team for the success of our students. Anna ISD is a destination district and will continue to accomplish great things in the future."
About Michael Comeaux
Comeaux has been the Superintendent of Schools in Anna ISD since 2018. Prior to this appointment, Comeaux served as the Superintendent in Post ISD. In addition to Anna ISD and Post ISD, Comeaux has also served in administrative roles in the Lumberton and Deweyville school districts.
A native Texan, Michael Comeaux grew up in Orange. He received his undergraduate degree in 1995 from Lamar University and, in 2005, completed a Master of Education at Lamar University. Comeaux and his family have lived in Anna since 2018. He is married to Keely Comeaux. They have two children, Kayla Holly and Kally Jump.
The Board announced Rod Townsend as Interim Superintendent effective Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
