Anna, Texas - October 19, 2023 - A historic event unfolded in the heart of Anna, Texas, as Anna ISD celebrated the groundbreaking of its fifth elementary school, Lorenzo Dow Hendricks Elementary. This monumental occasion marked a significant step towards enhancing educational opportunities for the city's youngest residents. Anticipation is building as this state-of-the-art educational facility will open its doors to PreK through 5th-grade students for the 2025-2026 school year.
The groundbreaking event brought together an array of significant stakeholders, including School Board members, district and campus administrators, city officials, representatives from the construction company, and architects who will shape the future of this educational institution. Among them were three of Mr. Hendricks' children: Ms. Frances Lawrence of McKinney, who recently marked her 100th birthday, Ms. Mary Dow Wright from Port Neches, and Mr. Don Hendricks of Celina. Their presence not only honored the memory of their father but also symbolized the enduring legacy of the Hendricks family in Anna.
The school is named in honor of Lorenzo Dow Hendricks, who dedicated an impressive 28 years of his life to Anna ISD, having served as both a grade school principal and Superintendent. Situated near the intersection of South Hackberry Drive and North Ferguson Parkway, this new addition is designed to serve the educational needs of the growing Anna community.
