Historic Drone Delivery Lands at Anna High School

Anna High School celebrated a milestone today as Walmart and Zipline completed their first drone delivery to any high school. The event marked the launch of Walmart’s new drone delivery service in Anna, and students were able to witness the full process in real time.

The celebration drew enthusiastic participation from across the campus. The Anna High School Marching Band performed throughout the event, creating an exciting atmosphere. The CTE drone team, marketing students, and drill team were all present, along with Anna ISD leadership and representatives from Zipline.

Superintendent Toby Tucker placed the very first order. His selections included Dr Pepper, which quickly became the crowd favorite, along with Twix and Twizzlers. Students watched as the order was placed, processed, and delivered during the event.

While the delivery was in progress, a Zipline representative explained how the drone technology works, the extensive safety systems that support each flight, and the many future career opportunities connected to drone logistics. Students asked questions and gained insight into the fast growing field of autonomous delivery.

Everyone received a live update when the drone departed with the superintendent’s items. Moments later, the aircraft appeared in the sky, arriving to the sound of the Anna High School Marching Band. Members of the CTE drone team retrieved the package and presented it to Superintendent Tucker, completing a historic moment that blended education, innovation, and community pride.

This event gave students a memorable look at the future of delivery technology and highlighted the partnerships that make real-world learning possible at Anna ISD.
