Hendricks Elementary Dedication and Ribbon Cutting Celebration
On September 30, Anna ISD proudly dedicated its newest campus, Hendricks Elementary, with a joyful ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by students, staff, community members, and more than 40 members of the Hendricks family.
The event was emceed by Priya, a fifth-grade student at Hendricks Elementary and member of the Anna Student Advisory Council, who welcomed guests and guided the celebration. Attendees included the Hendricks family, Anna ISD Board of Trustees, Superintendent Toby Tucker, Principal Medrano, Mayor Pete Cain, city officials, and community partners.
One of the most memorable parts of the day was the presence of Mr. L. Dow Hendricks’ three children, now in their 90s and over 100 years old. Their attendance made the dedication even more meaningful as they witnessed firsthand the school that now carries their family’s legacy.
The program included remarks from Principal Medrano, Board President Tiffany Terry, Superintendent Toby Tucker, and Mr. Steve Williams, grandson of Mr. Hendricks. Students added their voices with a special musical performance written and led by music teacher Mr. Aguirre, filling the celebration with joy and pride.
Board President Terry presented commemorative coins to the Hendricks family, sharing, “Your family’s legacy is woven into the history of this district, and it is a privilege for us to carry that legacy forward through L. Dow Hendricks Elementary.” Superintendent Tucker reminded guests of the bright future ahead, leading the Hendricks Creed before the ribbon cutting.
Three ribbon cuttings followed: one with the Hendricks family, one with family alongside school and city representatives, and one with the Anna ISD Board of Trustees and district leadership team. Each photo captured a unique piece of the partnership and pride behind the opening of the new campus.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the building. A particularly sweet moment came when two of Mr. Hendricks’ children, along with other older family members, paused to enjoy the playground equipment. It was a touching reminder of the joy and legacy that Hendricks Elementary will bring to generations of students.
The dedication of Hendricks Elementary was more than a ribbon-cutting. It was a celebration of legacy, community, and the future of Anna ISD students. With deep gratitude to the Hendricks family and all who attended, Anna ISD proudly looks forward to the learning and memories that will be made within the walls of this new campus.
