Breaking into History: Clemons Creek Middle School 7th Graders Experience the Texas Revolution!
By: Mindi Vandagriff-Coordinator of Professional & Digital Learning
At Clemons Creek Middle School, history truly came to life for Mr. Kyle Alcosiba's 7th-grade students during an exciting Texas Revolution Breakout EDU game. Designed to engage students in active learning, this hands-on activity had students working together to solve clues and unlock boxes, all while exploring key events and figures from the Texas Revolution.
Amid teamwork and a bit of friendly competition, students were immersed in history in a whole new way. Mr. Alcosiba shared his goal for the experience: "I wanted students to see history as something more than just names and dates—to feel the thrill of piecing together events as if they were experiencing them firsthand."
Throughout the game, students solved puzzles connected to important events, such as the Battle of Gonzales, the Siege of the Alamo, and the Goliad Massacre. Seventh-grader Cayleigh C. shared, "It was like being part of history. Solving each clue helped us understand how each event was connected, and it was so much fun to do as a team!"
Classmate Paityn D. echoed this excitement: "I usually think of history as reading and memorizing, but this game made it feel real. I didn't want it to end!"
The Texas Revolution Breakout EDU game encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving—skills that go beyond the classroom and add a memorable experience to their understanding of Texas history. Mr. Alcosiba reflected, "I'm so proud of how hard they worked to solve each challenge. Watching them connect the pieces and get excited about learning is why I do what I do."
Thanks to activities like these, Clemons Creek Middle School students are breaking out of the textbook and diving deeper into the past. We're excited to see how these young historians continue to unlock new learning experiences!
