Anna High School Marching Band: Dedication Beyond the Lights

Anna High School Marching Band: Dedication Beyond the Lights
Long before the first kickoff of football season, the Anna High School Marching Band is already hard at work. While most students are still enjoying vacation each summer, these dedicated musicians endure the Texas heat to learn music, master drill routines, and build the teamwork that powers their performances.
Once school begins, the commitment continues. Band members arrive before sunrise, rehearsing each morning to refine every note and step. Their efforts bring energy and excitement to Friday night football games, where halftime shows showcase their talent, discipline, and unity.
Beyond the stadium lights, the band maintains an extensive contest schedule, traveling across the region to demonstrate its artistry and precision. Each competition demands excellence, pushing students to perform at their very best.
“I am so proud of the hard work that our band students do day in and day out,” said Justin Wallis, Director of Bands. “This is a very intense portion of our year with football games every Friday and marching contests every Saturday from September 27 to the first or second week of November if we advance. We ask band kids to be musical athletes. They not only have to be able to play an instrument well, but in marching band, they have to move in very specific, physically demanding ways. Band kids must be dedicated, mentally tough, positive, and flexible. This activity is not for the faint of heart!”
The Anna High School Marching Band is more than music; it’s a story of dedication, perseverance, and pride. These students embody the spirit of Anna ISD: working hard, supporting one another, and shining bright for their school and community.
