A Summer of Preparation Leads to a Powerful First Day of School

The energy was electric across Anna ISD campuses today as smiling students, excited families, and dedicated educators kicked off the first day of the 2025–2026 school year. But while today marks the official start of classes, the work behind the scenes began long before students ever stepped through the doors.

Over the summer, Anna ISD teachers and staff were hard at work preparing for this very moment. From professional learning sessions and curriculum planning to classroom organization and team building, every detail has been carefully thought out to ensure a strong start for all students.

“This summer was a true reflection of our district’s commitment to excellence,” said Mindi Vandagriff, Coordinator of Professional & Digital Learning. “From collaborative planning sessions to hands-on training, every moment was focused on equipping staff with the tools, strategies, and confidence they need to make a meaningful impact on day one and beyond.”

Teachers attended content-area training, designed engaging lesson plans, and collaborated across campuses to align instructional goals. Campus leaders and instructional coaches worked side-by-side with staff to strengthen classroom practices and promote innovative approaches to learning.

In addition to academic preparation, campuses received fresh updates, new signage, welcoming bulletin boards, and organized classrooms that reflect the pride and professionalism of every staff member. Custodians, maintenance teams, and technology staff worked tirelessly to prepare facilities, ensuring students returned to safe, clean, and inviting schools.

Behind the scenes, the Transportation Department spent the summer mapping and refining bus routes, conducting fleet maintenance, and ensuring that every bus rolled out safely and on time. Drivers participated in safety training and route dry runs to prepare for a smooth first day on the road.

Likewise, our Safety and Security teams collaborated with campus and district leaders to review emergency procedures, update safety protocols, and conduct training sessions, furthering our commitment to protecting every student and staff member, every day.

As buses rolled in and classroom doors opened, it was clear that the effort paid off. Smiles, high-fives, and warm greetings filled the halls as students reunited with friends and began building connections with their new teachers.
