Spooky Tunes

The lights dimmed, and a hush fell over the audience as the first eerie notes drifted through the cafeteria. The annual Fall Band Concert was underway, and this year’s theme had everyone feeling a little spooked.

The concert band, dressed in all black, dove straight into their opening number. The low brass rumbled like thunder, while flutes and clarinets added a haunting melody that sent chills down the crowd’s spine.

“I love this concert because it was a cool experience," said Jayleen Castillo, an eighth-grade clarinet player.

Between songs, the directors took a moment to recognize the students’ hard work and dedication. The band had been rehearsing for weeks, mastering tricky rhythms and spooky sound effects— Like the cat hissing in “Black Cat”, the depending doom in ” Attack of the Cyborgs”.  One of the crowd favorites was “ Zombie Tango,” a fast-paced MArch that had the audience tapping their feet and smiling through the dynamics. Even parents couldn’t help but sway along to the rhythm.

“My favorite part was my repeated notes,” said Mathai Palathunkal, a percussionist. “You could feel the dance.”

After a moment of stillness, the audience erupted in applause, proud of the students’ hard work and talent. As the band took their final bow, the director smiled and wished everyone a safe and spooky Halloween season. It was clear—the Coyotes’ Fall Band Concert was a thrilling success!
