The Greater Anna Chamber of Commerce held their annual banquet this past Saturday evening. The banquet provides a chance for members to mingle together over a delicious catered meal, award the many dedicated volunteers for their service, and to introduce the Board of Directors and Ambassadors.

One of the prestigious awards presented at the banquet is "Educator of the Year", which recognizes an Anna ISD educator who has shown dedication and leadership in their position and in our community.

"We had a wonderful time celebrating our Greater Anna Chamber members and volunteers during our 11th Annual Awards Banquet," said Chamber Director Kevin Hall. "Our Chamber represents our business and community leaders, the future of which are in our classrooms right now. We know the importance of high-quality education and how much our teachers play an important role in our community."

The three Anna ISD educator nominees submitted by the District to the Chamber were Amy Hector, Cindy Lewis, and Jacob Wiliams. Chamber members then voted before the banquet, where Cindy Lewis was announced as the Educator of the Year.

Cindy Lewis is a "life-long learner." She loves to learn and try new things especially if that learning helps her family, self or students grow. She is passionate about finding tools that help strengthen her students' voices and give them opportunities to shine.

Lewis began her career as a high school history teacher where she enjoyed sharing stories of the unsung heroes as well as the known ones. During that time she worked on post-graduate work in English as a Second Language. Since then, she has taught pre-k at Rattan Elementary and the Early Childhood Center while working on her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Cindy moved into teaching 4th grade for a year at Joe K. Bryant Elementary and loved teaching science and social studies. Last year she joined the Anna High School faculty as the English as Second Language (ESL) teacher and coordinator, as well as, the gifted and talented coordinator. This year is her second year in those roles.

"The growth of the students in those [ESL] populations is inspiring to witness," Lewis said.

Although Cindy has held many different titles, her favorite titles are wife and mother. She is the mother of two amazing children who are also proud to be Anna Coyotes.

"I am thankful for this opportunity from the Chamber to share about the students I am blessed to teach," said Lewis.
