In response to school closings due to the coronavirus pandemic, College Board has changed all 2020 AP Exam dates and portfolio due dates, and they’ve developed exams that students can take at home this year. College Board wants students to have an opportunity to earn college credit and/or placement through their AP scores in spite of the crisis. We've created this page to help you navigate through the changes to this year's AP Exams. AP Exam Changes
College Board has developed secure, online free-response exams for each course. To be fair to all students, some of whom have lost more instructional time than others, the exam will only include topics and skills most AP teachers and students have already covered in class by early March.
Like many college-level exams, this year’s AP Exams will be open book/open note. Students will be able to take exams on any device they have access to—computer, tablet, or smartphone. They will be able to either type and upload their responses or write responses by hand and submit a photo via their cell phone.
-
AP Exam Length, Structure, Format
- Exams will be given from May 11 through May 22.
- Make-up test dates will be available for each subject from June 1 through June 5.
- Students can take the exam at home.
- Each subject’s exam will be taken on the same day at the same time, worldwide.
- The exam format and questions are being designed specifically for an at-home administration, so points will not be earned from content that can be found in textbooks or online.
- Most exams will have one or two free-response questions, and each question is timed separately.
- Students will need to write and submit their responses within the allotted time for each question.
- For most subjects, the exams will be 45 minutes long, and include an additional 5 minutes for uploading.
- Students will need to access the online testing system 30 minutes early to get set up.
- On test day, students will be required to verify their identity and confirm the work they submitted is their own.
-
Before AP Exam Day
In late April, College Board will provide AP students with information on how to access the testing system on test day, and video demonstrations so that students can familiarize themselves with the system.
-
Cancelling Your AP Exam
College Board has made the decision to not charge anything for an exam that isn’t taken, including the base exam fee as well as any additional fees such as the late order fee and canceled/unused exam fee. Refund policies and procedures are determined by individual schools and test centers.
- If you have decided that you DO NOT want to test this year and have NOT PAID Anna ISD, you don’t have to do anything. After the exam testing window is closed, College Board will send Anna ISD a roster of students who took the exam and students who did not take the exam.
- If you have decided that you DO NOT want to test his year and you HAVE PAID for your exam, you’ll be issued a refund from Anna ISD in late summer 2020.
- If you are still planning to TAKE THE EXAM and have NOT PAID, please make your payment through your MySchoolBucks account before your exam date in May.
