Understanding Meal Choices
In accordance with the USDA National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program and to prevent waste, Anna ISD offers students several meal component options instead of a predetermined food selection.
At each meal service, students are offered:
- variety of fruits and vegetables
-
whole grain-rich options
-
quality protein
-
low-fat plain milk or fat-free flavored milk
Students may select all of the offered components; however, to be considered a full meal, they must select certain items:
- At breakfast, a meal includes three items, one of three being a fruit or a vegetable.
- A meal at lunch must include a minimum of three components, with one of the three being a fruit or a vegetable.
Students who select fewer than three components or who do not choose a fruit or vegetable are charged for their selections based on a la carte prices.
