General Election Information

To be eligible to run for a place on the ballot, candidates must submit a written application that includes:

• Signature, date, and oath of the candidate
• Residence address or mailing address
• Length of continuous residence in Texas and the district
• Public mailing address and email (if available)
• Office sought (including distinguishing number and term indication)
• Statements confirming:
  • U.S. citizenship
  • No mental incapacity as determined by a court
  • No felony convictions
  • Awareness of the nepotism law
  • Oath to support the U.S. and Texas Constitutions and laws

To be eligible for election to the Texas school board, individuals must:

• Be a U.S. citizen
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Not be determined mentally incapacitated by a court
• Not have felony convictions
• Reside continuously in Texas for 12 months and in the territory of election for 6 months prior to the application or election date
• Be a registered voter in the territory of election
