STAAR Grades 6-8 Overview
Students in grades 6 through 8 participate in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program. Students will be assessed in the core subject areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. The STAAR assessment focuses on content taught during the current year rather than testing knowledge and skills learned over multiple years. STAAR assessments have a time limit. Unless a student is eligible for a designated support (accommodation), each student will have four hours to complete each assessment.
Grade 8 Student Success Initiative (SSI)
The Student Success Initiative requires that students in grades 5 and 8 pass both the reading and math STAAR tests to be promoted to the next grade. 8th grade students that did not reach the "MEETS GRADE LEVEL" performance criteria on the April administration of reading and math will retest in May and/or June.
