A year ago, in the same race at the same regional meet, she got clipped by another runner and went down early, ending her state dreams in the 800 meters. It’s been something that’s driven her ever since to come back and try again.

“That’s been in her mind and my mind every day since that day,” Anna girls head coach Hoot Jones said. “Now she got there.”

Indeed, and she did it in her senior year.

“Last year was a little bit of let-down for me,” Moran said. “I felt like I couldn’t get back to where I was. But I did this year, so I’m very proud of myself.”

Added Jones, “She ran a real good race, tactically. She led from the beginning until about the last five yards. The girl from Celina kept closing and closing and nipped her at the tape.”

Moran also placed seventh in the 1,600 meters this day.

On the boys’ side for Anna, the school-record setting 4x200 relay team of Keelan Crosby, Aaron Lee, Elijah Smith and Josh Abara placed sixth in the finals with a time of 1 minute, 30.01 seconds. While disappointed to have no entries at this year’s state meet, Anna boys head coach Jeremy Patton noted some positives.

“It was a successful season for us because of the way we competed,” he said. “And in breaking the school record (in the 4x200) not once, but three times. And then just making it here — we’re going to have many state champions come from this region. They should proud of themselves for the way they competed. We just had a little adversity toward the end of the season with strains and tweaks and that kind of stuff. But still, we had a shot and we did the best that we could.”
